Rules to Follow for a Night at the Ballet
She had such a horrible time that she claims she will never go see another ballet again. This is a shame because, in my opinion, attending a ballet performance can be a moving experience. This person violated one of the rules of ballet etiquette and did more harm than she realizes.
Nothing ruins the atmosphere of a ballet performance more than being unsure of the proper way to behave and etiquette. Knowing the correct way
remove fluorescent light fixture will be a benefit to you and everyone around you. Here are some of the more important rules to follow the next time you attend a ballet performance.
Dress properly. You’ll want to wear something nice and clean cut like business or business casual attire. You don’t need to overdress in your absolutely best clothing, but stay away from wearing jeans since they are inappropriate.
In case of a coughing fit during the performance, bring a throat lozenge or cough drop. Don’t be that person who everyone is looking at. Unwrap your lozenge or drop shortly after you are seated, avoiding any unnecessary noise during the performance.
Do not bring food or beverages. Do not eat and drink during the performance. It's too distracting, and out of consideration to the actors and your neighbors. Save the snacking for intermission. Some theaters will allow you to purchase beverages for consumption during the ballet performance.
Plan to arrive thirty minutes early and try to avoid being late. I know there are times when unexpected circumstances make it difficult and near impossible
fluorescent light temperature on time. However, if you are late, wait patiently until there is a break in the act. Never argue with the ushers about having to wait, they are just doing their job. Most theaters have a closed circuit television set up in the lobby showing the performance while you wait.
Turn off or silent your cell phones, pagers, alarms, or any other electronic devices you may have on you. If you forgot
replace fluorescent light fixture off your cell phone and it rings during the performance, turn it off immediately. Don’t answer it and let it go right to voicemail. You can always check your messages during an intermission.
Try not to bring young children to the ballet performance. If you can’t find a babysitter and no getting around bringing your child, make sure you call the
windows beforehand to see if children are permitted since many theaters will not allow them into a performance. If the child cannot follow the proper etiquette during the show or sit still for the length of the performance, they are better left at home.
Watch and enjoy the performance quietly, speaking only during intermissions and don’t sing, or hum. Applaud when only it is appropriate.
At the end of the performance during curtain call, don't make a mad rush for the exits. It is rude and inconsiderate to the actors. Instead, leave your seat in an orderly fashion at the conclusion of the performance.
